Permits can be purchased from any Forest Service office or visitor center, as well as at several local vendors. Fourth graders must visit a Forest Service office with a parent or guardian and present their Every Kid in a Park pass to receive their Christmas tree permit. The Every Kid in a Park pass allows fourth graders and accompanying adults free access to public lands across the United States.
This pass is free of charge and can be downloaded online. For information, visit www.
As a general rule, no special areas on the forest are deated for Christmas tree cutting. Cut your tree at least feet from well—traveled ro, flowing water, campgrounds, and recreation sites. Select your tree from thickets and overstocked areas and choose a tree that is the right size for your needs.
Remember to attach a permit to each tree you cut before transporting it to your vehicle.
Be aware of winter driving conditions while searching for your tree—pack tire chains, a first aid kit, and other emergency equipment.
